Walk in Auguste Escoffier's village

The Provençal Village

You will discover a village, rebuilt at the XVIth century, under the protection of the Lascaris' castle, which received François Ist in 1538. It is in its old Grande Rue that was born, a few centuries before, the famous Auguste Escoffier, who left Villeneuve-Loubet in order to make higher the french gastronomy. Today, you will have the chance to roam its streets, through stairs and slopes. Don't miss the museums, neither the church and keep time for a pleasant walk along the Loup.

The medieval fortress
Access Av. de Bellevue - Private property
The construction goes back to the 13th century, under the influence of the Comtes de Provence and Romée de Villeneuve. The inner courtyard is cobbled with river pebbles, under which is a tank. Walls and rampart walk are punctuated by five round towers and a medieval drawbridge. François 1er stayed here in 1538, in order to sign the Nice Truce with Charles Quint, a pact that put an end to the wars of Italy. It is a private property that belongs to the Panisse-Passis family since 1742.

The Escoffier Culinary Art Museum

Museum dedicated to Auguste Escoffier (1846-1935) « King of the Cooks and Cook of the Kings », and creator, among others, of the famous Pêche Melba. Settled in the house where he was born since 1966 (renovated in 2004), it comprises eight exhibition rooms about the universe of the most illustrious french cook : souvenirs, antique items and kitchen utensils, rich documentation, collection of menus, temporary exhibitions…

Art and History Museum

Proposed on four levels, the visit presents an area dedicated to the temporary exhibitions to the first floor. The second and the third floors present an original collection that recount the story of the french army during the 20th century. Documents, uniforms, badges and decorations, arms, paintings, models illustrating souvenirs from World War One until the Gulf War by way of the Resistance.
